Jamie and Drew had arrived back forty six minutes later, carrying four leather cases. Chris opened them up, and frowned. "Jamie, there's like...Three single shot rifles and five handguns.." Jamie flung his hands in the air in defeat. "What do you want me to?! Some voice commanded me to do this!" "Perhaps you co-" "Alright, enough ladies!" Samuel intervened. "Look," He continued, "Natyx is trust worthy. If he says something is coming, then shit is about to go down." Drew looked confused. "Nat who..?" He asked. "The voice, you twit." "Ah."
Krystal had been offered a rifle but refused it. "I'll use this, thank you very much." She said, twirling around her staff experimentally. Samuel noted the sharp point on it that hadn't been at it's current place before. Krystal explained the staff worked as a spear as well. Samuel only shrugged and picked up a handgun. "My voice is our most powerful weapon here," He commented, "I'll just need this in case."
As they armed themselves, The Doctor, Alison, and Tristan appeared in the room. Drew swore and jumped back, as did Jamie and Chris. "You two?!" Samuel yelled with great volume. "Samuel?!" They responded back. They briefly stared at each other and then gave a quick group hug. "Been awhile, you two." "Indeed it has." Alison said with a smile.
I know you are happy about the reunion, but let me inform these two on a few things first. Natyx said. Krystal and Samuel clenched their heads for a moment, and when the pain ceased after a few seconds, Samuel went up to The Doctor, shaking his hand. "Nice to meet you." "Likewise," The Doctor replied.
"Mibsark, what will they be facing?" Natyx said with a great touch of worry and doubt. "They'll be facing.........What are they called....D-" "Mibsark, may I speak to you?" Aileus interrupted. Mibsark looked at him. "Alright. I'll be back in a moment, Natyx." Aileus let Mibsark lead the way to his personal quarters. Aileus silently slipped the closest thing to a dagger a precursor could have out of his robes, and followed him.
"What is it you wished to speak to me about, brother?" Mibsark said.
"You can stop the act, old one. I know that you have learned about what is to be." Aileus responded, his voice devoid of expression. Mibsark just looked at Aileus and shook his head.
"Why do this, Aileus. Why."
Natyx spoke once again to the group while he waited on his two brothers. You three, that being Alison, Samuel, and Tristan, each have a power. We gave you these powers for a reason, which will be made clear, but not in the near future. As you all also have seen, others are acquiring their own powers. It's only fitting we give your race a name. "Don't we have one...? Humanity?" Alison asked. Your no longer just a human, Natyx said, you are now something more. Something different. As such, as shall give you a name.
Minutes passed, and nothing was said. Everyone was gripping their weapons in fear and anticipation.
I now know. I name your kind, Maytr.
"Because, old man. This is how things should be." Mibsark smirked, though Aileus couldn't see it. Aileus started for him, and just right before he shoved the dagger into his ribcage, Mibsark spoke. "I weep for you, my foolish friend. This w-" Mibsark couldn't finish the words as Aileus switched from his ribcage to his heart, bursting it. Mibsark clenched his teeth, and everything went numb, his vision fading to black. A warm feeling enveloped him, and with a final shudder of breath, the first precursor in all of time, died.
"Um...Nat...Yx...Sir, don't you mean Martyr, not Maytr?" Chris asked. Ne, Aileus replied, It is a word from my kin's native language. It was the name of a child of the first one, who was granted with a strength to create this reality. Thus, since your kind has a power that regular humans don't, a name you Maytr, I name you empowered ones. Samuel, Alison, and Tristan lifted their heads in pride. "Maytr." All three of them said. "A fitting moment," Krystal said, "But we don't have time to......What are those things?!" Krystal pointed to the open door. Samuel looked outside, and was shocked by what he saw.
Portals, rimmed with dark purple that faded to black in the center, appeared on the ground, and from within them, conjured forth walking, malnourished men and women, dressed in odd, outlandish armor. Some carried bows, with odd arrows. Some carried wicked swords and massive axes. Each of their eyes glowed a bright blue, the blue turning paler in the centers like a pupil.
Samuel inhaled, and exhaled deeply, his breath shuddering. He whispered, "Draugr..."
"What the hell?! Draugr!" Jamie swore, and fired a round into the nearest one's head. It toppled backwards, the blue fading away. The rest of the draugr roared a horrifying war cry, and charged.
Chris, Drew, and Jamie each fired off rounds like a madman. Alison switched forms and tackled at two of them, maiming their already sickly bodies. No blood came out of the wounds, only dust and sand-like powder. Tristan raised her hands, shooting balls of fire and ice at the wretches. Even though they gained wounds that would bring a man to his knees, begging for death, the draugr continued, despite their injuries. Krystal used the staff-spear like a pike, keeping two draugr at bay. An archer fired an arrow, the missle flying through the air, scoring a wound on Jamie's right ear. The bottom of it was torn clean off, leaving a bloody laceration where the flesh used to be. Jamie grimaced in pain, but kept firing. Samuel used various shouts on the draugr, firing his handgun in unison with the others. The Doctor, despite his disagreements at first, reluctantly picked up a handgun and fired as well.
They were outnumbered, outgunned, and their fortress was a simple log cabin. But yet, the fought, none-the-less.
Finally, all but one draugr remained standing. The handguns and rifles were exhausted, now only worth as long clubs and hammers. This draugr was a seven foot tall brute, a intimidating horned helmet on his head. He sported a massive axe, pitch black as night. He roared out, "Fus.....Roh dah!" in a sickly attempt at the shout. A spiraling blast of energy flew into the air following his cry. He brandished his axe, taunting the party.
Drew decided to prove his bravery, and perhaps try to win Krystal. He smirked, and leapt out from behind the barriers they had erected around the cabin. "Drew, get back here you IDIOT!" Samuel yelled. Drew gave him no attention, and picked up the bastard sword of one of the fallen ghouls. He approached the draugr. "Not so tough lookin', big guy." He then yelled out, "Let me show you a REAL man!" He then charged at the draugr.
The deathlord swung his axe at the hand that held the sword. It lopped off, leaving a clean stump in it's place. The bone was visible, being cleanly cut through. Blood sputtered out of it, painting the ground red. Drew looked in disbelief at his mangled hand.
And then the deathlord swung the axe once more.
And off, came Drew's head.
Like the previous cut, it was clean. Blood gushed out of the wound, flying into the air. The body twitched, and then fell to the ground, flooding the dirt with the crimson dye.
Alison and Tristan stared at the body in shock. Krystal put a hand to her mouth. Jamie and Chris looked in disbelief, tears flooding down their eyes. The Doctor shook his head solemnly. Samuel clenched his fist, tearing running freely down his cheeks.
"You....You...." He looked up at the draugr, and yelled out, "WUD-NAH KEST!" He vanished, appearing in front of the draugr. He cried out, "TIID-KUL ULD!" This slowed time for Samuel, but only made him faster in everyone else's perspective. He picked up the sword Drew had used, then ended the shout.
And then shoved the blade through the deathlord's chest. The draugr looked up at him, grinning evily, revealing his rotten teeth and gums. Then the blue faded out of his eyes, and the body went limp. Samuel dropped the sword almost instantly, and doubled over, sobbing.
Natyx, Aileus, and all the precursors stood beside the body of their fallen brother. Aileus had told them that Mibsark had used to much of his energy to try and prevent the coming of the release of the dimension's denizens. This was accepted, despite it's lies. Natyx then returned to the group, his voice pained. It is starting. Visions then flashed through each of their heads, but there was no pain.
Creatures, perhaps with no end, flooded through portals like the ones they had observed. Citizens and soldiers alike were slaughtered, but before long the creatures started attacking each other. Children ran from hideous apparitions, desperately wanting their mothers. The streets ran red, purple, and many other colors imaginable with the blood of the different races. Alien ships fired at the earth and each other, factions already being made. Then it flashed to the group, and it showed that the ground before them was shifting. Earth was growing. Change was happening.
This, Natyx concluded,is the true Synthesis Day. It is set in stone. Maytr, Cererian, Time Lord, Humans, your paths are intertwined. Now, I have one last command for you.
Live. Live, until I call upon you.
And then the voice left them in this new world, where the modern way of living, and all past ways of life. Had came to an end.
